Born on July 10, 1980 in Dallas, Texas to Baptist minister Joe Truett and Sunday School teacher Tina Ann Drew, Jessica Simpson was raised in a strict Christian home. She was discovered singing at a church camp by a head of a small contemporary Christian record label and recorded an album over the next three years, however, the label folded and the album was never officially released. In 1999, Columbia Records released Simpson’s first official album, Sweet Kisses.
In 2001, Simpson released her second effort, Irresistible, which reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. She has since recorded five albums, with the most recently recorded And the Band Played On set to be released in Fall, 2006. Perhaps the largest contributer to Jessica’s fame was the MTV show, Newlyweds, which featured Jessica Simpson and her former husband, Nick Lachey.
