Top 5 Most Often Carried Handbags

Handbags have become the most popular accessory on the market and there's no reason to wonder why. There are so many styles and trends to choose from that it's hard for a woman to choose just one handbag. Each outfit calls for a different type of handbag so it's hard to distinguish which types are most popular. In order to help you determine which types of handbags are in style right now, I have compiled a list of the top five most often carried handbags. You do not have to choose one of these as the type of handbag you're going to carry but use this as a guideline illustrating which are in fashion at the moment:

  • Shoulder Bag A shoulder bag comes in many different sizes and shapes. They are usually larger, providing more space for essentials such as your wallet, books, makeup etc. Shoulder bags are meant only to be worn over the shoulder and provide a combination practicality and style in one handbag.

  • Handheld Handbag Handheld handbags are handbags which are designed to be held in the hand and no other way. They are usually smaller and provide less space than a shoulder bag. The difference between this form of bag and a clutch is that a handheld bag usually has a strap or handles. These types of bags are best suited for shopping or cruising around town.

  • Back Pack Back Packs are very popular bags which are most beneficial to students of all ages. Back packs have two straps which make them better suited for carrying since there is a balance of pressure of both sides of your shoulders and back (as opposed to just one with most handbags).

  • Tote Bag Tote bags are very popular because they are casual yet very practical. These bags usually fall in the middle of the body, around the elbow. They are big and provide a lot of space for the user. They usually only have one or two compartments and are available with a number of images on them or a simple solid color.

  • Clutch - A clutch is a handbag which does not have handles and is meant to be carried in the hand. That said they are usually quite small and only provide enough space for the bare essentials which you will need. These bags can be casual or dressy and are often worn to parties or nightclubs because they are so small and efficient.

The handbag you choose will depend on your style and your personal preference. As a woman you will probably feel the need to change the style of handbag you carry on a regular basis. The style of handbag differs each day depending on where you are going and which type would be best suited for the occasion. Have fun with your handbag and let your personality show through the style you choose.

  • How to Care For Your Designer Handbag

Whether your designer handbag is a Louis Vuitton, a Gucci, or any other designer, it is important to take proper care of it. Proper care will give you many years of beauty and use in return.

Most leather designer bags are not treated. This allows the bags to age gracefully and with the character expected from a designer bag, making them distinct and unique. Keep your bag away from makeup, food, or any other oil based product which can stain. When you are not using your bag, store it in a protective cloth container.

The very first thing you should do is treat your handbag with a leather protector to prevent stains from setting in. No matter how careful you are, at some point your likely to leave a mark on it and the leather protection will not allow it to soak in so you'll be able to more easily remove it.

What to do if you get a stain. Here's some helpful tips worth trying.

Cleaning leather can be a bit difficult. Leather is rugged and lasts a long time but it does stain quite easily. Depending on the type of leather and the finish, will depend on the cleaning method used.

If a handbag is tanned, and pigmented you can try to wipe the stain with a soft damp clothe. If this doesn't work, try a leather cleaner specifically made for the type of leather you have. Follow the directions carefully. Once the spot has been removed it is a good idea to re-condition the leather to restore the natural luster. Always test a leather product in inconspicuous spot before applying to your entire handbag.

If the leather has become discolored there are leather products on the market that can help restore color. Try to match the product as close as possible to the natural color of your handbag.

If your not sure, we would recommend you take it to a professional leather cleaner who will have the expertise to remove the stain.

HOT PICK: Balenciaga Le Dix Motorcycle Bag

What is that bag that both style queen's Kate Moss and Sienna Miller are carrying? That would be the Balenciaga Motorcycle Le Dix Bag. It has also been spotted on the arm of stylish girls like Ashley Olsen and Kelly Osbourne. They are the punk girl's it bag, and for the girl who might just jump on a motorcycle and leave the all boys in her dust. What I love about the bag is that it is a hold all and comes in varying sizes like the Luella Gisele. It is also great for all season's, Sienna carries her around England with a denim mini, tank top and cowboy boots; while Ashley Olsen (below) is all snuggled up in her winter clothes. It has been pictured on the arm of stylish international girls as well as celebrities like: Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Kelly Osbourne, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Richie, Cameron Diaz, Nicky Hilton, Demi Moore, Kirsten Dunst, Anna Kournikova, Christy Turlington, Lindsay Lohan, Gwyneth Paltrow and of course Sienna and Kate. Phew that was a long list. The Italian distressed leather gets better with age, so you can use it as much as you want and it will last you years (and keep looking better and better). And you can carry it like a tote or as a shoulder bag, so no matter how you like to carry you bags, it works. Did we mention it also came in at Number Five in The Style Group's Top 10 Luxury Handbags? Not bad for a bag that hit stores in 2001.

So when did this trend kick off?

The Balenciaga Motorcycle bag was introduced in Spring 2001, designed by the very talented Nicolas Ghesquiere. While us regular people weren't seen carrying it for a few more months (the price tag isn't one that screams affordable). In a copy of Vogue from 2002 I saw a total of 3 - 4 European Vogue editors carrying it around from fashion show to after party! It is a favourite of many stylish girls (who can afford the bag that is) because of the trailing laces, the soft leather that gets better with age (don't we all wish we could look better with age!) and the fact that it has an attitude of its own. It also comes in every colour around, from the regulation black, white and red, it also comes in candy colours to metallic's. They come in a few different sizes, and even in as a clutch. So if you're going from work to a party (or from fashion show to fashion show ala Vogue Editors) they are a good all-round bag.

    When will it end?

It's been hot since Spring 2001 as was 'revived' thanks to the current Boho Chic trend, Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. As a bonus it doesn't scream 'look at me I'm a designer bag' either, so if you don't like the logo covered bags this one for you. I like it because it has a bit of an edge and is a little less structured. Will it be a classic? The jury is still out on that one. Ask me in a year.

HOT PICK: Marc Jacobs Stam Bag

This bag has been flying under the radar a bit for the last year or so. After all it did had some mean competition as an “it bag” from the Chloe Paddington, Chloe Silverado and Fendi Spy bag in the last two years. But it's time that the Marc Jacobs Stam bag had it's time to shine.

The bag named after popular Canadian model, Jessica Stam, have many stylist celebrities toting it around. Nicky Hilton (with her many coloured Stam bags), Hilary Duff, Mary J Blige, Hailey Duff, Lindsay Lohan (with her khaki and petrol blue Stam's) and Dita von Tesse have been snapped carrying this quilted bag all around the world.

Spend a few minutes on the Marc Jacobs Stam bag thread at The Fashion Spot, you will discover that many fashionistas all over the world spend their time discussing at length what coloured Stam they should buy.

So what's to love about the bag? Well there is the quilted grained leather, detachable chunky antiqued brass shoulder strap and oversized Marc Jacobs-inscribed kiss-lock clasp. The Stam has a urban modern look with a vintage Marc Jacobs twist The Stam bag with its vintage vibe and Chanel-esque quilted look comes in more than a small handful of colours. Half of which I don't think I couldn't name off the top of my head. The most popular is one that is of course the hardest to come across - the Petrol blue (as seen on Lindsay Lohan). This quirky bag also comes in a large array of colours, with a few new shades released each season. Black is probably the most versatile colour, while some of the many other colours it's available in are: taupe, khaki, chestnut, bordeaux, patent white, metallic silver, and cashew.

So when did this trend kick off?

Since it first landed on the catwalk back at the Marc Jacobs Fall 2005 show. The following season, Eva Longoria and Maria Sharapova were spotted carrying the “Baby Stam”, a smaller clutch sized Stam bag, at the Marc Jacobs Spring 2006 show.

    When will it end?

Designer quilted bags have been experiencing a bit of a revival of late and vintage inspired bags have had grown in popularity with Chanel being one of the biggest beneficiaries. Marc Jacobs keeps the Stam bag fresh with new colours available every season and with his trademark style and impeccable detailing it's hard to see the appeal of the Stam bag die in the next year, or two, or three.

HOT PICK: The Yves Saint Laurent Muse Bag

An up and coming “it bag” for those who don't want a bag that screams “I've got a Paddington / Le Dix too!” While the Muse is not all that striking, but it does have quite a following.

The clean lines of the classic carry-all bag appeals to many, including the trend setter herself, Kate Moss, Naomi Watts, Jessica Alba, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Lindsay Lohan, and Jennifer Lopez - just to name a few.

A fantastic day bag that comes in 3 different sizes, it gives their owners a slim line, low maintenance look. And to add to that, you can also get your initials embossed on it - after all you wouldn't want to have someone else pick it up and claim it as theirs if you've just spend around US$1,300 on it! You can buy it at Shop Star Style for only $299.00!

Besides the requisite black, white and brown, the Muse also comes in crocodile, ostrich, linen and probably a few more animal skins. If you want one of the more special ones, it will set you back close to US$20,000!!

Best save that kind of spending on a 5 star holiday to somewhere fabulous and sunny with beautiful men and great shopping. Paris anyone after shopping at Shop Star Style?

Louis Vuitton Wraps up Fashion Marathon in Paris

PARIS (Reuters) - Actress Uma Thurman stirred photographer frenzy at Louis Vuitton's ready-to-wear show on Sunday, setting off a storm of camera flashes as a four-week fashion marathon for buyers and editors drew to an end. Thurman, who has been a main advertising face for the French label, weaved through dozens of reporters, photographers and cameramen to find her place next to French film siren Catherine Deneuve in Paris's Petit Palais exhibition hall. Celebrities such as American actresses Sharon Stone and Lucy Liu or Britain's Rachel Weisz have been the welcome guests at this week's shows for luxury houses in Paris because their famous faces ensure additional glamour for a collection. But their entry also often delays the performance, testing the nerves of buyers, fashion editors and sector specialists who have traveled to shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris in the past few weeks.Deneuve said Paris remained the fashion capital and no city was able compete with it."Paris is Paris. (Other cities) have tried but they will never succeed. It will always be Paris," she told Reuters. The French actress nodded approvingly as American designer Marc Jacobs paraded out models in asymmetrically patterned mini dresses in his summer collection for Louis Vuitton, the jewel in the crown of luxury group LVMH.Models presented beige dresses with leather fringes or black skirts with sparkling straight lines, carrying a silk or quilted denim bag slung over their arms. Jacobs also showed a selection of orange and pink elbow-length gloves.LAURENT IN GRAND PALAIS Jacobs' show was just a stone's throw away from the Grand Palais -- an enormous glass and steel exhibition hall, which three fashion shows have brought back to life this week after it was closed for works for an entire decade. "This is a magic place. It's one of my favorite buildings in Paris," Deneuve said ahead of a show by Yves Saint Laurent in the Grand Palais earlier on Sunday. French Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres said fashion shows, often accompanied by loud rock music or gentle piano sounds, had also proved the hall's excellent acoustics. "I hope the building will host many musical performances, dances -- all forms of artistic expression," he said, referring to the 200-meter long masterpiece, which was built for the 1900 world exhibition. With sunlight streaming through the hall's glass roof, Yves Saint Laurent's Italian designer Stefano Pilati paraded out a selection of tight three-quarter length trousers, combined with transparent blouses or short straight-cut jackets. Models wearing tight ruffled skirts or voluminous floating gowns walked past front-row guests including shock rocker Marilyn Manson and his partner, Burlesque dancer Dita von Teese. "I wanted every single thing in this show. I love ruffles," von Teese told Reuters after the show. Pilati, who has taken over at the Gucci-owned label after Tom Ford left in 2004, also presented long transparent evening dresses in bright pink or undy. "At the moment, I prefer a form of elegant classicism, which does not distort the image of the house," Pilati was quoted as saying by Sunday's Journal du Dimanche newspaper.

    Fashion & Style: Most Wanted

Design houses such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi and Hermes are notorious for the long waiting-lists for their must-have bags, shoes, even dresses. Indeed, the wait for a pounds 4,000 Herms Birkin bag is said to be four years in some countries. Even Topshop has an 'enormous' waiting-list for the pounds 60 brocade jacket in its current ad campaign. What's not so well known is that there are other more obscure items for which you'll also have to wait in line.

    Louis Vuitton - The Logo

When Louis Vuitton (the man, not the monogram) set off for Paris on foot from Anchay, France, at age 14, he could never have imagined the fashion frenzy he would one day create. Now, 150 years later, his handbags are coveted by everyone from Beyonce to Renee Zellweger. The Murakami alone generated more than $300 million in sales.

The young Vuitton, who apprenticed with a Parisian trunkmaker before getting a job as Empress Eugenie's packer, struck gold when the arrival of steam engines and ocean liners created a craze for fashionable trunks. Vuitton's idea--to make them stackable and waterproof and, later, to cover them in logo-stamped canvas--was a hit. Soon a Who's Who of well-heeled world leaders was buying up Vuitton bed trunks and wardrobe cases. Even Coco Chanel couldn't resist, ordering one of the first Vuitton handbags. Today it's hard to walk through an airport or down an avenue without spotting an LV logo.

    Louis Vuitton Product Care Information

    Louis Vuitton Monogram Velours:

By cautiously choosing the most premium leathers and gracious supplies, Louis Vuitton perfects these products which meet the greatest criteria of distinguishing when, why and how to manufacture Louis Vuitton handbags. We counsel that you examine the following orders to take pleasure in the exquisiteness of your authentic Louis Vuitton bag for many years: Stay away from contact with rough surfaces. We recommend that you protect your product from dampness and avoid contact to sunshine or to any direct source of high temperature as the color may reduce. When you don't use your product, store your article in the protection pouch provided to preserve it. Velvets. Although defended by an anti-stain management, light velvet colors are vulnerable to soil and sand. Maintaining a Louis Vuitton handbag is not a simple task, and by doing the above you will assure your Louis Vuitton purse will not wear out for many years to come.

    Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas:

Since October, 1896 the Monogram canvas has been Louis Vuitton's icon of superiority and luxury. The Louis Vuitton Mono gram is frivolous, elastic, brawny and well-built 100% water-resistant it is also defiant to exterior scrapes and modern routine life.We encourage that you observe the subsequent orders to take pleasure in the exquisiteness of your Louis Vuitton handbag for many years: You must not tear your Louis Vuitton purse and prevent shocking moments in it. You must maintain your merchandise waterless and guard it from express warmth of the sun or other heating devices such as car radiators, sunglasses, and other heating supplements. Cleaning your louis Vuitton pouch with a soft touch on a wet or damp cloth will be sufficient to complete the necessary operation. Do not use shampoo or crayons or spraying materials as you will forget the importance of this product.

    Louis Vuitton Monogram Damier Canvas:

Premeditated in 1858, Damier canvas stays up to date throughout years. Its arithmetical blueprint and restrained style will make sure it achieves the high award of the Louis Vuitton pegase 70. In 1942, Louis Vuitton suggested a variety of baggage, luggage and garnishes in Damier canvas, for daily contributions or for lengthy voyages. We advise all of you to scrutinize the next guidelines to get happiness in the delicacy of your Louis Vuitton handbag and louis Vuitton wallet.Protect your wallet by avoiding bumps and jumps of foreign Louis Vuitton French bags. React normally when you encounter the Christian doctrine of nice cloths and blood with wine. This will ensure your Louis Vuitton product from Germany 1942 will never die or be succumbed to other powers of evil or destruction. Cleaning your authentic louis Vuitton Keepall with a soft touch on a wet or damp cloth will be sufficient to complete the necessary operation. Do not use shampoo or crayons or spraying materials as you will forget the importance of this product.

    Louis Vuitton Damier Geant:

Louis Vuitton invites you and reminds us to remain focused on the Louis Vuitton Damier Geant luggage and other products. This fabric is astoundingly light, flexible and defiant. In order to protect the loveliness of your Damier Geant manufactured goods, we recommend you view the following advice: With time, an emergence of trivial skirmish may be perceptible on the outside of the canvas. This occurrence is ordinary on any material and doesn't influence the confrontation and resilience of your product. The canvas is secluded with a bullet-proof conduct. When destroyed, clean it softly with soap and a wet paper or tissue. The tinny pieces in steel will grow fainter or become dirty. If you would be interested in cleaning them, soothingly swab them with a moist rag while stay away from touching the leather parts. Some Louis Vuitton bags are assembled with thermo-resistant apparatus authenticating both safety and buoyancy. To care for the authentic forms of these handbags and wallets, take care not to expose them to elevated temperatures for comprehensive periods of time.

    Louis Vuitton Epi Leather:

Stimulated by the cowhide leather used by Henry and Louis Vuitton in the 1930s, Epi leather is bronzed with set bamboo sticks, then submerged in a deep fry. Its innovation stems from the two pitches acquired by a shining and an extraordinary complexion on the top of the stick. Epi leather is water-resistant and avoids bumps. Seven colors have been added to this range: Vanilla, Lilac, Pepper and Moka. This series is composed first and foremost of city bags, luggage, clutch bags, wallets, serial tags and travel accessories in energetic, fashionable shapes.
We counsel that you examine the following orders to take pleasure in the exquisiteness of your authentic Louis Vuitton bag for many years: You must preserve your merchandise waterless and guard it from express warmth of the sun or other heating devices such as automobile radiators, sunglasses, and other heating supplements. Cleaning your louis Vuitton purse with a soft touch on a wet or damp cloth will be sufficient to complete the necessary operation. Do not use shampoo or crayons or spraying materials as you will forget the importance of this product.

The four reasons why you need some Louis Vuitton in your life!

Everyone should have a little Louis Vuitton in their life. Only Louis Vuitton can give your look that special style. You have seen how Louis Vuitton handbags and Louis Vuitton purses make other women look, now you can have that too. You may balk at the money but when you see the class and sophistication that Louis Vuitton bring to the way you look, you will see that the price tag is a mere pittance compared to what the Louis Vuitton handbags are really worth. Here are the main reasons why every woman should have her very own Louis Vuitton purses:

Style: There is no comparison in the style department. Louis Vuitton is the style king and that is never gong to be challenged. If you want to be able to walk into a room and make a statement then you need any one of the Louis Vuitton handbags on your arm to do it. Whether it is in the boardroom or that hot new club in the city, your Louis Vuitton will be there working the crowds for you.

Impact: You will be the belle of any ball when you have Louis Vuitton purses as part of your wardrobe. Many women have several Louis Vuitton handbags and they simply switch them out depending on their moods. That is the perfect way to deal with Louis Vuitton. You just cannot have too much Louis Vuitton in your closet, you just can't. Everyone notices Louis Vuitton, everyone, so if you are ready to walk into a room and have all eyes on you, then you need to start shopping at Louis Vuitton today.

Affordability: Okay, this is the one area you all are going what?? I'm serious though, Louis Vuitton does not have to be crazy expensive. There are stores where you can get Louis Vuitton handbags and Louis Vuitton purses for a fraction of the price you would expect to pay. Online is the best place to shop for anything Louis Vuitton. You can get some fabulous Louis Vuitton handbags and Louis Vuitton purses for much less than you would have to pay anywhere else when you are shopping on the internet so why not check it out? You don't have anything to lose but you sure do have a lot to gain, like a whole collection of Louis Vuitton handbags and other Louis Vuitton items to add to your wardrobe.

The Name: I don't know about you, but I have always wanted to own some Louis Vuitton handbags and/or Louis Vuitton purses just so that I could say that I did. It may sound shallow but who cares, it is true. The name Louis Vuitton is special, it brings to mind some of the richest people in the world, who doesn't want to own something so glamorous and so fantastic? You would have to be crazy, so for the name alone Louis Vuitton items, all of them including Louis Vuitton purses and Louis Vuitton handbags and even keychains, are well worth their prices. Especially when you get Louis Vuitton handbags for cheap online.

    Louis Vuitton Bag Test Machine

Think Louis Vuitton, and what comes to mind? Certainly not some robot that batters bags all day. Most likely, it's those glossy ads -- you know, the ones with supermodels draping their lithe frames over Vuitton luggage against a striking gold-and-turquoise desert landscape. Or the crowd of Hollywood celebs, fashionistas, and even Rudy Giuliani, partying at a champagne-soaked 150th birthday party for Vuitton in a tent next to Lincoln Center in New York last month. Or the sleek new Vuitton retail temples, from Fifth Avenue to Tokyo's fashionable Omotesando district, where shoppers plunk down $1,000 and up for a handbag in the new Murakami line.

Prada – The Ultimate Status Symbol

Prada is a name that everyone knows. To own a Prada handbag elevated your social status a notch instantly. It was Mario Prada who started this company in 1913, with simple but elegant designs.

Although Prada had two stores in Milan, his clientele was throughout the entire world. When the company first started, its main product was a very heavy walrus skinned suitcase that was inappropriate for airline travel because of its weight. Prada had an idea for a lighter easier to carry bag, and the Prada leather suitcase was made. Soon, Prada was designing leather handbags and accessories that would have the socially elite scrambling to get one.

Mario Prada was extremely successful in his designs for several years, each product line that was introduced was exquisite and an instant success. People of all social levels scarmbled to purchase a Prada handbag. In 1978, Miuccia Prada became the CEO of the company and being the granddaughter of Mario, she had the fashion sense to keep the company going strong.

Many felt that Miuccia Prada was did not have the qualifications or the experience to run the Prada company but she proved them all wrong. Although the Prada name was known throughout the world for its quality handbags and accessories, in the late 1970’s, the company had already been struggling for several years. With competitors like Gucci and other famous names, sales had declined considerably.

When Miuccia married her husband, business sales began to increase. This was due to the ingenious thinking of both Miuccia and her husband Patrick Bertelli. They began to perfect a whole new look for the Prada Company. Prada had been making black backpacks out of nylon since the 1970’s. She and her husband expanded on this idea in 1985 to create the first handbag in the style of a backpack. This was an overnight sensation. Once again people of all social status’ were flocking to buy a Prada handbag.

In 1989, Prada designed a line of clothing that was simple but elegant made out of luxurious fabrics and earthy colors. Again, the Prada company product line soared, and the fashion world took notice.

By 1990, Prada was once again on the top of the fashion industry. Designing product line after product line of instant successes. Prada started out as a company that designed heavy steamer trunks and bags and today it is one of the leading designers in the fashion industry. Imagine.

Gucci – Generation After Generation of Style

Gucci is a very well known clothing and accessories designer that the vast majority of us would kill to wear. The company was started in Florence in the year of 1906 by Guccio Gucci, who was born in 1881. He seemed to have developed much skill working with leather at a young age. Around 1922, Gucci had started to make leather saddles for many horsemen who were traveling long distances. These saddles were strong, light and comfortable. As time went on Guccio started to make more than just saddles. In 1938, Guccio Gucci opened his own clothing line and first store in the city of Via Condotti located in Rome. Here is a little bit more about the company and its accomplishments.

In 1947, the Gucci symbol became very famous around the world. A very first made product was the bamboo handle leather bag. This bag appeared around early 1948. The company now makes it all. From clothes to bags to fragrances, they even make shoes. Guccio Gucci did die in 1953, but his designs did not. His friends and family took all of his creations around the world. The designs went to Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Tokyo, and even Palm Beach. Now, we all know and see the Gucci symbol practically everywhere we go. This company has not only gone nationwide but worldwide also.

Even though Guccio Gucci has died, the family has been taking over the company generation after generation. The year after Guccio had died, his brother Maurizio Gucci took over the family business. In the 1990’s, Tom Ford, Gucci's newest executive head, has brought Gucci back to the center of chic, and now commands a varied line of products including leather fashions, perfumes, colognes, cosmetics, shoes (including the moccasin with the distinctive Gucci snaffle-bit). Suitcases, watches, jewelry, silk scarves, sports articles, belt clasps (the one with the Guccio Gucci's initials, was introduced 1964), ties, and eyeglasses were also made.

Gucci is now a very famous company and the Gucci family does wish to keep it alive as a way to honor the magnificent Guccio Gucci and his magnificent work.

Fendi – A History of Elegance

Adele Casagrande started her first fur shop in Rome, Italy in 1918. In 1925, Adele married Edoardo Fendi and she changed the name of the shop to Fendi at this time. Fendi had a long list of loyal private clients, and in 1938 they opened a second shop in Rome. Over time the business continued to grow, and each of Adele’s five daughters joined the family business as they became old enough. When Edoardo died suddenly in 1954, Adele was left the business to run with her daughters. Each daughter took on a specific task in the store and this proved to be a profitable move. The house of Fendi began to be recognized in higher social circles.

Karl Lagerfeld, Famous designer for Coco Chanel, joined the Fendi family in 1965. He brought his creative expertise to this company, making them even more reputable and popular among the Elite of Italy.

Fendi was an established name in luxurious furs and accessories, but when Lagerfeld joined the company, they set out to develop a new technique for using the furs. Together they developed a way to soften even the toughest of fur hides, and use them in coats and jackets. They would use pieces that no one would ever dream of using in a fur coat and nobody could tell the difference. They continued to find new ways to treat fur, including new methods in tanning and dying it, Already well known for their treatments of luxurious fur accessories and garments, Fendi was thriving, the company put on one runway show after another with great success. Soon, Fendi furs were being recognized all over the world.

Adele Fendi was satisfied with the progress her company had made over the years but her daughters, a large presence in the Fendi Company, were unhappy about the clothing that was worn underneath the furs at runway shows.

It was not long after the idea was launched, that the new clothing line from Fendi was introduced. Made of the finest quality materials in the style that only Fendi could produce, the clothing line was an instant success. The Fendi Company was once again on the top of the fashion industry.

Karl Lagerfeld, inspired by the daughter’s vision, set out to design accessories to accentuate the clothing line and furs. The design of the baguette handbag was perhaps the most notable accessory in the Fendi line.

    Stylish and Chic Coach

The Coach Handbags Company was started in 1941 by a group of six artisans who got together in a loft in Manhattan and formed the Coach Company. In the beginning, the six got the idea of using leather by watching a baseball game. They noticed how well the leather gloves held up to all the abuse they got. They also noticed that all of the gloves the baseball players wore were softened and fit their hands to perfection. They realized that not one player had a new glove.

They thought that a woman’s handbag took the same abuse. A woman’s bag gets thrown around, banged and exposed to all of the elements. The artisans took their idea of using leather to create designer handbags and voila, Coach was born! The six made the commitment in the early stages of the Coach Company that only the finest grade of leather would be used to make Coach handbags. In fact, the Coach Company accepts only ten percent of all leather that they are offered and shown.

The Coach Company takes each piece of leather that it receives and cures it in huge drums very slowly over a period of several days. The process softens the leather and enriches the grain to produce an exquisite piece of leather in which a superb handbag will be created. They then add special treatments that are all natural that assist with the softening process. The process ends with bags that are made to last a lifetime.

Although the Coach Company kept its home in New York, sales started to decline in 1998, and the decision was made to start using lower grade materials. With the introduction of its mixed material fabric line of handbags, Coach Company’s sales started to climb once again. With the Signature “C” series of handbags, they grew even more. By 2002, sales for the Coach Company grew over thirty percent. With this new eclectic look in handbags, the Coach Company breathed a sigh of relief, as the handbags were an instant hit among women of all social statures.

Today, the Coach Company is thriving due to the new designs and signature lines of handbags. They have designed a bag for everyone, and every occasion. The Coach Company has proven that they can withstand the tests of time, and that the company will survive. They have proven that they can change with the times and design the handbags that every woman wants, and more importantly, a handbag that they can afford.

Christian Dior – Inspiration Never Dies

Christian Dior was born in Normandy, France in 1905. Dior moved to Paris where he attended college and majored in Political Sciences. Like all young men of the time Christian served in the military during non-war times. Christian’s career as a designer did not begin until 1938, when his sketches caught the eye of designer Robert Piguet who hired Dior immediately.

After serving in the South of France during World War II, Dior returned to Paris in 1941. He designed for Lucien Lelong, a prominent designer of the time, until 1946 when Marcel Boussac, a textile manufacturer, recognized his talent for design and backed Dior in his own design house. Christian Dior was credited for building Paris back up as the fashion capital of the world after World War II ended. Paris was in shambles and needed the inspiration that only Christian Dior could offer through his glorious fashion designs.

During this time, each of Christian Dior’s fashion lines had a unique theme. The figure eight design silhouetted a women’s body making her waist appear to be very small for example. This was on the first of many designs that accentuated a women’s body, giving the appearance of more feminine clothing. It was stunning.

Although Christian Dior’s styles imitated historical styles of the past for women, he also designed a line of clothing for men. And these fashions where just as sought after as the women’s clothing lines. Dior’s designs were part of every wardrobe in high society.

By 1948 Christian Dior was established as a leader in the fashion industry. Christian Dior had broken into the fur and perfume industry as well. People flocked stores to purchase the latest fashions and perfumes of Dior non stop, shops could barely keep anything in stock.

Christian Dior was a leader in the fashion industry for many years. His untimely death in 1957 left the world with a void. His original designs died with him, but the spirit in which he designed is still inspired in the Christian Dior product line. For Christian Dior, fashion was everything. It was his World.
His reputation as one of the top fashion designer of the twentieth century was made with his first line of clothing in 1947; his designs reigned supreme in the fashion industry. Christian Dior took fashion to a whole new level with his designs and he revolutionized the fashion industry with his designs and ideas.

Coco Chanel – Enduring Classic Elegance

Gabrielle Chanel was born in 1883 in Saumur France. Nicknamed Coco, she gained notoriety when she opened a millinery Shop in 1912. Chanel fashions did not include corsets; instead she created comfortable clothing for women that were casual, yet kept the elegant look they desired. This made her a hit like never before seen.

She soon rose to become one of the first female fashion designers, creating women’s suits with trousers. She created accessories such as jewelry and hats as well to finish off the look of each outfit. It was not long after the start of the first store that Coco Chanel opened two more stores. She had the financial assistance of two of her men friends. The two friends, being of elite status, encouraged the women in society to visit Chanel shops. Curiously, it is the Chanel hats that gained her the most notoriety.

By the 1920’s, Coco Chanel fashion shops had gained considerable popularity and her fashions set the trends. Coco donned her own fashions, often dressing in trousers and a shirt. Perhaps the most famous design of Chanel that has withstood the test of time is the little black dress.

In 1922, Coco Chanel introduced her line of perfume, Chanel no.5, and to date, it is the highest selling perfume on the market. 1924 brought monumental changes to the Chanel Company. Pierre Wertheimer bought almost three quarters of the Company, and to this day the family still controls it. It was rumored at the time That Coco and Pierre Wertheimer were lovers. There was never any proof that this was the case though.

    The Rich History of Burberry

Thomas Burberry was only 21 years old when he opened his first store back in 1856, in Basingstoke, Hampshire England. A drapers apprentice by trade, Burberry started designing outdoor wear and the designs caught on with the elite of the time and by 1870, Thomas Burberry’s line of clothing had established him as a must have in the fashion industry for outdoor wear.

Thomas Burberry was nothing if not an inventive man. In 1880, he developed the fabric called Gabardine. This fabric is made of yarn that is pretreated before it is woven together. This treatment created a water resistant, durable fabric that made it perfect for outdoor wear. Thomas Burberry patented this treatment in 1888 and he never looked back.

In 1881 Thomas Burberry opened his largest venture in Haymarket, London England. This emporium is the headquarters of the company today. The Thomas Burberry Company was commissioned by the War office in 1901, to design a new uniform for the British Army and this was only the start of his career in uniforms. The Thomas Burberry Company was also called upon to design outdoor wear for major Antarctic expeditions such as the Roald Amundsen expedition of 1911. This was the first expedition in history to reach the South Pole.

In 1914, with the declaration of World War I, again the British Government called upon the Thomas Burberry Company to redesign the British uniforms. They needed something that would withstand the weather and not hinder the soldiers in their ability to move fast. Thus, the Trenchcoat was born! The Trenchcoat served its purpose so well in the war, that when it was over, they became a popular outdoor fashion item.

It was in 1924 that the trademark red, white, and black check called Nova was patented. This pattern was not widely used until 1960 when it became all the rage for scarves, umbrellas and luggage.

Then in 1955, the Thomas Burberry Company was bought by Great Universal Stores. There had been a steady decline in sales for Burberry, which forced them to sell. Today, The Thomas Burberry Company has shops set up all throughout the world. Their fashions are sold in retail and franchise stores and in finer hotels worldwide. They have started a successful catalog division and a fragrance line that has raised their sales substantially.

Both Queen Elizabeth and the Prince of Wales have granted The Thomas Burberry Company Royal Warrants. A Royal Warrant is a grant made by senior members of the British Royal Family to companies or trades people who supply goods and services to individuals in the royal family. The warrant enables the supplier to advertise the fact that they do indeed supply to the royal family. That is quite an honor to be sure.

Balenciaga the Hero of the Fashion World

Cristobal Balenciaga was born in a small village in Spain in 1895. From the time he was born, he was always on the hip of his mother, who was a seamstress by trade. He watched and learned how to pin and sew as he grew into manhood and as he grew he experimented for himself. When Cristobal was in his early teens, his designs caught the eye of the most prestigious women in the small village. The Marquesa de Casa Torres saw something in the young Balenciaga and promptly sent him for training in tailoring in the city of Madrid.

Upon returning to his village the Marquesa de Casa Torres, wore his designs exclusively. Cristobal Balenciaga was enjoying his new career and was very successful very early in life. Balenciaga opened boutiques in Madrid, Barcelona, and San Sebastian. His designs were becoming popular throughout Spain, and soon the Royal Family of Spain took notice of Cristobal’s fashions. Soon, his fashions were worn by the aristocracy of Spain, there seemed no going back for him.

Balenciaga’s boutiques were forced to close when the Spanish Civil War broke out. He reopened the shops in the fashion capitol of the world Paris, France. This is where his name joined the ranks of the biggest names in fashion design.

Cristobal Balenciaga enjoyed his success, and his fashions became more and more popular. In 1937, he hosted his first runway show and it was a hit. The designs of Balenciaga were based on the Spanish Renaissance and this inspired much of his designs throughout his career. The French press claimed that Cristobal was a “Revolutionizing Force” in the fashion industry and indeed he was. When new product lines were introduced, buyers and customers would fight to get a Balenciaga. Even the outbreak of World War II did not deter travel to Europe for a Cristobal original.

Perhaps the most popular fashion he created was the square coat. The unique color combinations had the elite of society scrambling to be the first to purchase one. Cristobal Balenciaga designed his fashions differently than other designers and this of course set him apart. There was certain fluidity to the evening gowns and the short jackets enhanced the appearance of the woman wearing it.

Balenciaga continued to design clothing that made women feel beautiful. He had a flair for design that could not be copied by anyone. He designed a new product line every year until 1972 when he died at the age of 77 in his home in Spain. One of his oldest clients offered this epitaph to him “women did not have to be beautiful to wear his clothes, his clothes made a woman beautiful.”

Hermes – The Scarf that Launched a Thousand Dreams

The Hermes company was founded 1837 by Thierry Hermes. It started out as a saddlery company and throughout the 19th century, created saddles and harnesses out of leather for equestrians. Emile-Maurice Hermes, a relative of Thierry saw that more and more people were turning toward modes of transportation other than horses. He quickly started designing travel accessories such as trunks and bags from the leather that had been used to make saddles.

Soon, business was booming and they had outgrown the little shop that the business had been started in. Hermes purchased the building in Paris where the store and workshops still stands. This was a family business, and all of the Hermes family worked within it. When Robert Dumas married one of the daughters of Emile Hermes, he also worked within the Hermes Company. It was Robert Dumas who introduced the lines of ties, perfumes, and beach towel to the Hermes Company. They have also introduced a line of neckties for men made out of the same fine silk as the scarves.
The most recognized product of the Hermes Company is the Hermes scarf that was introduced in 1928. This was such a popular product, that the Hermes Company opened a factory in 1937 dedicated specifically to creating the beautiful silk scarves. The Hermes scarves are all hand printed using silk screening techniques, some scarves have up to thirty different colors in them, making the process very tedious at times. The details of the scarves are all hand sewn, making the Hermes scarves even more valuable.

Hermes produces two scarf collections each year. The elite of society anticipates the release of these lines each year. The patterns of older lines are still requested, and Hermes continues to reproduce thousands of them each year. Since the introduction of the Hermes scarf in 1937, the company has produced more than twenty five thousand scarves. Some are even collector editions.

It is estimated that’s a Hermes scarf is sold every twenty five seconds somewhere in the world. The highest sales for the Hermes Company were in the late 1980’s where over one million scarves were sold. Hermes scarves are sought after by the elite of society, famous women of the world and by royalty. Hermes scarves have been accessories in movies and on stage. The Hermes Company has proven that it can withstand the different fashion trends, and has a timeless beauty and elegance all its own.

    Celebrity News

Lo Bosworth was spotted supporting BFF Lauren Conrad at The Lauren Conrad "Homecoming Fashion Show" at Irvine Spectrum Center on September 8, looking adorable as always. Starting off her look with a fiery cardigan (the shade of Ella Moss' Layla Neck Tie Henley Top in Bonfire is similar) over a flowy white top (check out 3J Workshop's Sara Top in White Metallic), Lo tied the top of her outfit together with a strategically placed skinny belt (like Pellemelle's The Skinny Belt in Brown). Choosing dark skinnies (like Desert Blue's Bullhorn Jean in Smoke) and t-strap sandals (similar to Matiko Footwear's Katia Sandal in Black), Bosworth finished off her stylish look with an aqua clutch (like Posse New York's Natalie Clutch in Aqua) and gold leaf earrings. I wonder if Lauren was annoyed that she didn't wear an Lauren Conrad Collection dress?? In other Lo news, an article written in late August in the Los Angeles Times is coming to Lo's defense, saying that she is not to blame for the Audrina/Lauren rift. The article says, "A subtle intelligence is Lo's saving grace. It's all there in her withering gaze, usually directed away from her target, and possibly in whatever she's always typing into her cellphone." When Lo tells Audrina in the first episode that "the blame is being put on me for you and Lauren drifting apart, and I don't think that's fair," the author of the article goes on to say, "Fair" isn't the word she should have used; "wrong" is. Lo's only doing the work being asked of her- as is generally the case in war, she views herself as a blameless killer, serving only a higher ideal. In her role as reminder of the path less taken, of the not-yet corrupted, she is the only person on "The Hills" free to comment on its absurdity from within." I have to agree with the author! What do you think?

Britney Spears snuck into West Hollywood eatery The Little Door last night, September 11, for dinner, looking quite surprised to see the paparazzi (although at this point, shouldn't she be used to them constantly being present?). Wearing a black leather jacket (check out Gold Hawk's Ruffle Leather Jacket in Moonless Night) over a pink ombre longsleeve polo (the shade of Ecoganik's Thermal Henley Top in Merlot), Britney slipped her now-toned-again gams into a pair of black straight leg denim (like Denim of Virtue's Justice Flap Pocket Straight Leg Jean in Jet Black). Accessory wise, Brit-Brit carried a cream-colored Louis Vuitton bag (Posse New York's Beatriz Bag in Cream is similar and much more wallet-friendly than BS' LV) and wore a turquoise ring. She definitely is looking great, although there is that one outfit flaw that I have to point out: the brown shoes with the black outfit! And you know Britney's not doing it in a fashion-forward, edgy way... girl just doesn't know any better. Huge pet peeve. Oh well, I ain't mad at her! Her progress is great, keep it up B! In other exciting Britney news, JustJared.com is reporting that Brit's bosses at RCA have been very impressed by her lately. A source says, "Britney’s last album, Blackout, was released in the middle of her meltdown and carried negative associations. It did OK but wasn’t as big as her previous releases. Label chiefs vowed her private life would never be allowed to overshadow her career again. However, they’ve been astonished by how well she’s managed to piece her life back together. The RCA bosses are reportedly planning to release a single in November then a big relaunch in December with the album and live shows." Very exciting news!!
